Today I am mostly......

So, here's what I'm up to today.....

  • Rehearsing for a gig I'm playing tonight
  • Trying to finish the baby hoodie I'm currently knitting
  • Designing a birthday gift for my friend's husband
  • Making homemade soup (I like to do that....a lot!)
  • Trying to catch up with my heavily pregnant sister (birthing plans, cravings, etc)
For those of you that don't know, I'm in a band with my husband. We are both HUGE music fans and love playing music. We also write our own songs - a creative pair, you could say! :) I sing and play drums (Velvet Underground style) and my husband (who shall be known as 'P') plays guitar and does a bit of singing too.P and I are massively influenced by bands like The Velvet Underground, Mazzy Star and Low, as well as artists like Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley (I'll try and add some videos/recordings soon so that you can have a listen). Our music can roughly be described as folk meets rock with a bluesy/dark edge.

It's been a fairly busy but productive day so far :) All I need now is a nice cuppa and a few hours rest before I need to get changed and head to the venue for tonight's gig (I'm just so rock'n'roll! :) ). I'll let you know how the gig goes tomorrow :)

Best wishes,

Friday 24 February 2012

Thank goodness it's Friday!

I'm absolutely frazzled! It's Friday afternoon and I'm so glad to say the weekend is finally here. This week has been a tough one. I've had the end of a cold that just doesn't want to say goodbye and now my ears are all fuzzy :(

I'm keeping positive though, despite a tonne of marking to do I'm currently working on a new baby hoodie to add to my online store. I LOVE making baby products. They are small and cute and knit up in no time. My sister is due to have her first baby in two and a half weeks. This has given me the perfect excuse (as if I needed one!) to make lots of beautiful baby clothes and accessories. I really hope she likes them. I've had lots of fun searching my collection of knitting books and the internet for fabulous baby bits. There are so many beautiful patterns out there, and the best part is lots of them are free! I particularly like Lion Brand's awesome website which is absolutely jam packed with beautiful patterns for the whole family.

Well, I'm off to finish my hoodie. Happy weekend everyone!

Today I am mostly......

Today I am mostly.....

  • wishing I didn't ache so much after a monster rock climbing session yesterday
  • thinking about what I can knit next
  • planning lessons for school
  • making some healthy vegetable and lentil soup
  • loving the blogs I'm following - I'm really enjoying Bleubird vintage's photos.
I'm sure I'll have lots more to fit in today but for now the list above will do :)

I'm also planning to research/go and see a venue for a potential knitting/craft club that I want to set up. I've wanted to do this for a long time but never seem to find the time to do it. Right now I'm in a very proactive mood  and can't wait to get a local group up and running. I hope people will come.....

That will be all for now....I may pop back later and let you know how I got on with my list :)

Much love,
Knittynora xx

Shop now open!

Well, I'm a very excited and happy lady.... my Etsy store is officially open!

I'm starting small, with just a snippet of the items I've created recently, but am already planning new items to create and upload - my imagination is running wild! :) A few friends have already logged on and added me as 'favourite' which is wonderful.

Over the weekend I'm planning to add a few more items and organise my Facebook page. Lots to do so I'd better get started.

Look forward to hearing from some of you soon!

Half-term crafting :)

So, it's half-term and I'm busy trying to make the most of my time off. Unfortunately, I have a cold which is making me rather tired and irritable :(  Thankfully I have a new craft magazine to keep me company. I found it in on a recent trip to my favourite Oxfam store. It's an old copy of 'Quick & Crafty!' that's full of fantastic eco-friendly craft ideas - from patchwork quilts and homemade cards to a beautiful (and free) Jaegar knit pattern. This should keep me busy for a while! :)

This afternoon, I'm off to a winter 'BBQ'. My friend has a new roof terrace that she's desperate to show off so we're keeping our fingers crossed that it doesn't rain. A gathering with friends means that it's time for me to get busy in the kitchen and make one of my famous gluten and wheat free crumbles - yum!

Speak to you all soon,

Knittynora xx

P.s. Since officially starting my blog (last Saturday) I've been busy catching up with my friends' blogs and finding new ones to follow. There are some fab blogs out there. I look forward to finding and reading one or two more during my week off.

I finally did it!

Well, hello there fellow crafty people.

I've been talking about starting a blog for a while now and today I finally did it!

I guess I should start by introducing myself. You can call me knittynora. I'm a married lady, music teacher and obsessive knitter. When I'm not teaching children I can be found with a cup of tea, some beautiful yarn, my numerous knitting needles and growing collection of knitting books. My obsession with knitting began when I picked up a pair of knitting needles whilst shopping with my friends Kat and Jono. I had been searching for a way of relieving the stresses of modern life and this was it. It's been two years now (and an excessive number of knitting projects later) and I haven't looked back.

After many compliments about my crafty projects, I began creating gifts for my friends and family who loved them so much they encouraged me to set up my own crafty business. (You can find examples of my crafty fair at Etsy.com. Just search for 'All you need is craft'.)

I look forward to sharing my crafty journey with you all.

Many crafty wishes,

Knittynora xx
